1. What is a Trezor Hardware Wallet?
Trezor is a physical device designed to store your cryptocurrency private keys offline, keeping them safe from online threats like hackers and malware. Unlike software wallets, Trezor ensures your keys never leave the device.
- Supports 1000+ coins and tokens
- Fully open-source and audited firmware
- Secure offline key generation and management
2. Inside the Box
Before you begin, check that your Trezor box contains the following items:
- Trezor device (Model T or Model One)
- USB cable
- Recovery seed cards
- User manual
- Trezor stickers (optional)
Important: If your Trezor came with a pre-filled recovery seed or appears tampered, do not use it. Only set up your wallet using https://trezor.io/start.
3. Connect and Set Up Your Trezor
Follow these steps to securely initialize your device:
- Connect your Trezor to your computer using the provided USB cable.
- Go to https://trezor.io/start.
- Select your device model (Trezor Model One or Trezor Model T).
- Install Trezor Suite — the official desktop app for Trezor management.
- Launch Trezor Suite and follow the on-screen prompts to begin setup.
You’ll be prompted to install firmware if your device is brand new. Always verify the firmware source in Trezor Suite and never install from third-party sites.
4. Create a New Wallet
Once the firmware is installed, create a new wallet:
- Choose “Create new wallet” in Trezor Suite.
- Follow the instructions on your Trezor screen.
- You’ll be shown a 12, 18, or 24-word recovery seed. Write it down and keep it offline.
- Confirm your seed by selecting the correct words on the device.
Never: Take a photo of your seed, save it on your phone/computer, or store it online.
5. Set a PIN Code
Set a strong PIN code to protect access to your Trezor device:
- Choose a random PIN that you can remember.
- Use 6+ digits, avoid repeating or sequential numbers.
- If the wrong PIN is entered too many times, the device will wipe itself for your security.
6. Add Cryptocurrency Accounts
In Trezor Suite, you can now add crypto accounts:
- Go to the Accounts tab in Trezor Suite.
- Click Add Account and choose the desired cryptocurrency.
- Trezor Suite will sync with your device and display your balances.
You can add multiple accounts for the same coin (e.g., BTC #1, BTC #2) to organize your funds.
7. Sending and Receiving Crypto
To Receive:
- Open the appropriate account in Trezor Suite.
- Click "Receive".
- Verify the receiving address on your Trezor screen.
- Share the address or QR code with the sender.
To Send:
- Click "Send" in Trezor Suite.
- Enter the recipient’s address and the amount.
- Review the details on your Trezor device.
- Confirm and authorize the transaction.
8. Advanced Features
Trezor also offers powerful privacy and security features:
- Passphrase Protection: Add an extra word to your recovery seed for added protection.
- Labeling: Tag your transactions or accounts using encrypted metadata.
- Tor Support: Route traffic through the Tor network to enhance privacy.
- U2F Authentication: Use your Trezor as a 2FA device for supported platforms.
Advanced options should only be used if you fully understand the risks involved. Mistakes may result in permanent loss of access.

- Only use official Trezor software and hardware purchased from shop.trezor.io.
- Never enter your recovery phrase into a computer or phone.
- Use a strong, unique password for your Trezor Suite app.
- Keep backups of your seed in multiple safe, offline locations.
